By the end of this module you should be able to:

  • Define research ethics
  • Explain the role of a research ethics board (REB)
  • Explain ethical principles such as respect for human dignity, concern for welfare, and justice
  • Consider a researcher’s ethical obligations to communities
  • Identify examples of research involving human subjects that have caused harm
  • Familiarize yourself with relevant ethical policies and documents at your institution, in your home country, and/or internationally
  • Determine whether your research project requires review by a research ethics board
